The workshop is coming right along.
I’ve been working at getting my new workshop set up. My garage has two roll up doors. A couple of weekends ago Sean and I framed in one of the openings and installed a door and window. I insulated the new wall and drywalled it. It’s painted with primer and ready to have the final colors and window trim added.
This week I’ve been framing in the interior wall to separate my workshop area from the garage area. I finished the interior wall framing today and I also hung an interior door. Tomorrow I can insulate it and add the drywall.
I already added 6 new light fixtures. I think I may re-arrange them a bit and build a small 6 by 5 foot “clean room” for putting finishes on instruments.
Now that I have my mornings open for this kind of work I hope to be building a lot more instruments this year. As I was arranging the contents of my shop I found my cocobolo boards. I’ve got one board long enough to make 2 sets of sides. The other board is big enough for a parlor size guitar. Hmm, perhaps a cocobolo and spruce parlor guitar with curly maple binding? That could be nice.
But my big goal is to finish my mandolin in time for
The Mandolin Symposium. I want to be able to play my own instrument this year as well as my Breedlove mandolin.
I’ll post some pictures of the new shop as soon as my wife gets back from her business trip (She has the digital camera). Then we’ll start building some instruments.
I can’t wait.
