Slow Jam THIS Thursday!

Slow Jam has moved from the 2nd Tuesday to the 2nd Thursday of the month. This upcoming Thursday (Feb 8th) is the 2nd Thursday of the month and we’ll be having our jam at Music And More at 7:00 pm

We moved the jam so we wouldn’t be conflicting with the every Tuesday jam at "The Wild Chicken" in Loomis. I hope to see you at Music & More this Thursday.

Friday night we did the "Open Mic" night at Lake Of The Pines Music. A lot of the kids who take lessons there played songs on guitar or piano. Then the folks who work there got together and did a song. Then I played a couple celtic tunes, one of which I compleatly messed up. Oh well, sometimes stage fright is still an issue even when you’ve been doing this for 30 years.

Then I invited Sean and Michael up to play a couple of Django tunes and it went really well. We really had a big sound for just an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and electric bass.

The next performance of "The Swing Band With No Name" will be on Feb 18 at the Pioneer Methodist Church in Auburn. We’ll be playing at 2:30 as part of the Music for Humanity concert. All proceeds go to benefit Habitat for Humanity and the Interfaith Food Closet.

Speaking of "The Swing Band With No Name" we’re considering calling ourselves either "The Hot Club of Auburn" or "The Hot Club of the Sierras." It’s a reference to Django’s band "The Hot Club of Paris" which is where Gypsy Jazz really got it’s start. We’ll see. I guess it’s a better name than “"Poultry In Motion"

Get Ready for the Slow Jam!

OK, This time I’m giving everyone plenty of warning :-)

Slow Jam is next Tuesday, November 14th at Music & More at 7:30 pm and it will go until at least 9:00.

All levels of musicians are welcome from beginners to “pro”. We’re here to have fun.

So come on over this Tuesday. This is the first slow jam since the Auburn Bluegrass Festival and I’d really like to see some new folks there. I’m trying to get ALL of my students to show up (All 25 of them! That would be cool)

I hope to see you there.

Two Events You Need To Know About.

First Event: Slow Jam is this Tuesday at 7:00. We’re all going to learn a new song together. It’s going to be fun. Also, I’ve dropped off press releases for the Slow Jam to the Auburn Journal, the Colfax Record, and The Sentinel. If any of them printed them then we may have some more folks at the jam. I also asked for our slow jam to be listed in the California Bluegrass Association website. So who knows, we may have some new people there on Tuesday.

As always, Slow Jam is free.

Be sure to tell all your musician friends. The more the merrier.

Second Event: This Wednesday, June 14th at 7:00 I’ll be presenting a free seminar on how to restring your guitar, mandolin, or banjo. If you’ve been taking your guitar to the music store to have them change your strings for you them this is the seminar for you. You can change your own strings cheaper than the music store and you don’t have to leave your instrument somewhere overnight.

Both events are at Music And More.

I hope to see you there.
